Wedding at The Leaf Winnipeg, Jessica + Nick
The Leaf in Assiniboine Park, Winnipeg is one of those venues that doesn't really need much from a photographer. Walk in, and the space does a lot of the work for you. Soaring architecture, lush greenery year round, and on a clear early summer day, the kind of soft, even light that makes everything feel calm and unhurried. It's modern without being cold, and it photographs beautifully no matter where you point a camera.
Before we made our way to The Leaf, Jessica and Nick had their first look at the park where they first met. It set a tone for the day, unhurried, personal, rooted in something real.
From there, we made our way to The Leaf for the rest of the day.
The Ceremony
Jessica and Nick were married on the mezzanine, which overlooks the main biome from above. It's a genuinely beautiful spot for a ceremony. The light coming through the glass is soft and diffused, no harsh shadows, no squinting, just clean, flattering light that lets you focus on what's actually happening. It feels intimate even with a full guest list below and around you.
Couple Portraits at The Leaf
What I appreciated most about photographing Jessica and Nick is that they didn't need much from me. They're quietly silly together, the kind of couple where the laughter and the closeness just happen. My job was mostly to move them through the space and let things happen. We worked through the biomes, through the walkways surrounded by palms and tropical greenery, and outside as the light started to go golden late in the day.
The Leaf gives you a lot to work with. The architecture alone creates natural frames and interesting backgrounds, and the plants add texture and depth that you just don't get at most venues. It's a genuinely unique space for wedding photography in Winnipeg.
The Reception
The reception moved into the main hall, and the energy carried right through the evening. Jessica and Nick are the kind of couple that makes a room feel easy. There's no performance to them. What you see is what you get, and what you get is warm, funny, and completely comfortable in their own skin.
