STEINBACH + SOUTHERN MANITOBA

Steinbach Wedding Photographer

There's something about weddings in Steinbach and southern Manitoba that I've always loved. The days tend to feel genuinely personal. People show up fully. The ceremonies are real. And there's a kind of earnestness to the whole thing that makes my job a lot more rewarding than just showing up and photographing a timeline.

I've been photographing weddings in this area since 2012. It's where I got my start as a photographer, and when I went full-time in 2019, most of my bookings that year were right here. I've been featured in SteinbachOnline as a former Steinbach resident, and the community has always meant a lot to me.

My name is Cody Goetz. I'm a Winnipeg-based wedding photographer, and I include Steinbach and the surrounding area in my standard travel coverage. No extra fees if you're getting married in Grunthal, Niverville, Landmark, Mitchell, or anywhere in between.

THE APPROACH

How I photograph weddings

I don't work from a shot list, and I'm not stopping your day every twenty minutes to pose things. I'm watching for what's actually happening and staying close enough to catch it.

Most couples tell me afterward they barely noticed me. That's intentional. You get to be fully in your wedding, and I come back with photos that feel like it happened the way you remember it.

That said, I'm not a fly on the wall either. During portrait time I'll give you enough direction that you're never just standing there wondering what to do. Most couples are surprised by how quickly it starts to feel natural.

I was named 2024 Canadian Wedding Photographer of the Year and listed in the Fearless Photographers Top 100 in 2025, a peer-judged list that means a lot to me. The photos will tell you more than the awards will though. If the work connects with you, you'll know.

WHY IT MATTERS

What you're actually preserving

Your wedding day is going to pass quickly. You'll spend months planning it and it'll be over before you've had a chance to take it all in. The photos are what you come back to, when things are busy, when years have passed, when the people who were in that room aren't all still around.

I take that seriously. These aren't decoration. They're a record of a day when everyone you love was in the same place, and you chose each other in front of them.

WHERE I'VE WORKED

Where I've photographed in southern Manitoba

Steinbach and the surrounding area have a lot going for them photographically. Open skies, clean prairie light, and spaces that feel personal rather than overbuilt.

Rustic Wedding Barn is the most popular venue in the area, and it gives you something to work with from every angle. You can see a recent wedding there here.

Sandilands is one of my favourites for portraits. The forest and trails give you something entirely different from the open fields, and couples who want something a little more dramatic tend to do really well out there. I've also used it for engagement sessions, like this one.

The Dream Space is a great option if you want something more polished and curated.

Friesen Hall is a community space that comes to life depending on how it's decorated and who's in the room. I've photographed a lot of receptions there and I know how to work with it.

St. Malo Provincial Park is somewhere I've used for both wedding portraits and engagement sessions. The beach and dunes give you light you don't get anywhere else in the region.

I've also photographed at La Lune and Evergreen, along with a number of churches in and around Steinbach. There's an A-frame in particular that photographs really well.

Backyard weddings are also worth considering. Some of my favourite early weddings were backyard tent setups where family cooked the meal and the ceremony happened somewhere meaningful to the couple. There's a different energy to those days, and it shows in the photos. You can get a sense of what that looks like here.

  • Coverage starts at $4,500 for eight hours and includes a complimentary engagement session and your full digital gallery. You can find a full breakdown on my wedding photography cost page.

  • Most couples book 12 to 18 months out, especially for summer and fall dates. That said, if your date is coming up sooner, it's always worth reaching out. I occasionally have availability closer in and I'd rather you ask than assume.

  • Yes. Sandilands is one of my favourite spots in the area, and I've used St. Malo and several outdoor locations around Steinbach as well. If you have somewhere in mind, bring it. If not, I'm happy to suggest something based on what you're picturing.

  • Documentary and story-driven. I'm focused on what's actually happening rather than constructing it. I do give some direction during portrait time so you're never just standing there, but I'm following your day, not choreographing it. You can read more about my approach to candid wedding photography here.

  • Yes, and some of my favourite early work came from exactly those kinds of days. Backyard tent weddings where family cooks the meal and the ceremony happens somewhere meaningful to the couple bring a different energy, and it shows in the photos.
